| I just saw Into the Woods tonight at Carson High School. And, for the most part, I loved it!!!!!!!!! Go CHS! I realized that I am also well-versed in the forces of musical theatre talent at CHS--Alex (Cinderella's Prince), Bri (Cinderella), Katie (Lucinda--Cinderella's stepsister), Brittany (Little Red Riding Hood), Domenic (Baker), Mark (Mysterious Man), and Darian (Harp). I sat with Chris, Stephanie, Gina, and Stephanie's younger sister Tessa. We had a blast, and probably laughed at more things than were normal, but it was a good time to be had.
And today, in less than twelve hours, I'm auditioning for The Taming of the Shrew--EEK!!!!! Chris was called today about it (we called to confirm our audition time last night), and he learned that the role of Katherine was pre-cast. :( I am so unhappy about that! It's one of (in Tony's words, but less whiny and less frequently) my dream roles. Alas, I've not a chance. So, I've resigned myself to the thought of Bianca; we'll see how it goes. Chris said he only wants one role, and may not stay in it if he doesn't get it. It's nice that guys can afford to be a bit more arrogant about such things. Hmph. I may not do it, though, if I don't get a good role. We'll see what happens.
| Yeah for Sharece Bunn! I was too excited to get that comment from her. She was a blast in London, and even offered to start a Lynette Brown Fan Club (which still amuses me to no end)!
Well, let's see. I'm enlightening my students with films this week. It is our SAT testing week, which is the standarized test we give every year. As a result, we've been asked to go easy on the work this week. My junior high classes just finished reading Cheaper by the Dozen, so I am showing them the original version which is actually based on the book. What a novel idea! My high school classes are watching The Scarlet Pimpernel, which I'm currently rereading. I love that film! Good times.
Yesterday, I saw another tap dance-heavy show, Anything Goes, at South Lake Tahoe High School. Bubba was perfect as Billy. Tessa was beautiful and sang beautifully as Hope. Bri was hilarious as one of the Angels (the part I played 10 years ago). Josh was completely hysterical as Moonface Martin. Clearly I know the talented forces of SLTHS's drama club; as well as their director and musical director. Funny how things can change in one year. It was very good, and the dancing was amazing. Bubba ruled the tapdancing stage! I'm excited for the two of us to pick up our continuous playing of Phase 10 backstage again. It'll be sad without Stephanie or Bri, but maybe we'll find others who are willing to indulge us. If Chris weren't Lumiere, I might invite him into our prestigious club, but my guess is that that could get a little old.
Last night, I went to an Accoustic Guitar concert at the BAC. The performer, Kelly Joe Phelps, played blues, and did a pretty good job of it. I invited dad, who invited Uncle Jacque. We had a good time (and I got in for free because of Chris! Ha!). Dad even said that he liked Kelly Joe Phelps's guitar. This is really saying something, since my dad is strictly a Taylor man, and Phelps played a Martin guitar! Good times had by all.
I cannot say how ecstatic I am that our spring seems to be returning after three or so weeks of freezing! Spring is the greatest thing ever. Ahh, the weather. Life is just better in the spring. Sigh.
| HOORAY FOR BROADWAY!!!!!! :) I do love seeing Broadway shows. 42nd Street was, in a word, awesome! Amazing dancing, great singers, some fantastic comedic timing, and all those snappy zingers placed so well. Ah, good times to be had. I think anyone can enjoy it, but particularly those who've been in shows (particularly musicals) and fully understand what it takes.
And, as this is the last show of the "season," I got to learn what is coming up. The Full Monty (no thank you, though I do like the song "Gotta Love that Man"), Thoroughly Modern Millie (a fourth time? Well, I just may have to), Cats (blech!), Oklahoma (modeled after the one with Hugh Jackman--I am considering it), and Hairspray (fun, but not my favorite. We'll see). How exciting it is to know what is coming up, though! Woo-hoo for moi!
Spring Break is over. Sigh. Back to reality, I suppose. Work, rehearsals, church, Bible study. Oh, and in about 6 or so weeks, I'll be housesitting for three weeks.
